Wow What a Weekend I Had

After long time of tiring schedule, finally i got the chance to go on a trip this weekend(i.e. 3rd and 4th April). Friday was also holiday and with a leave on monday i got four days in a stretch which is sufficient to make a nice trip. After much discussion with my brother and flatmates we reached on a consensus. Our trip plan was somewhat like this->

Day 1 : (2nd April, 2010) -> Leaving bangalore at 5:00P.M. to Nandi Hills.

Day 2: (3rd April, 2010) -> Leaving Nandi Hills at 9 A.M. in the morning for shravanbelegoda, Belur, Halebidu and then back to Bangalore.

Day 3: (4th April, 2010) -> Leaving Bangalore early in the morning for Hogenakkal Falls then to krishnagiri and back to bangalore on same day.

Day 4: (5th April, 2010) -> Bangalore Sight Scene.

DAY 1:-
But nothing worked in the way we planned. After arranging car from one of my relative, we ( me, my brother and ashwin) left for Nandi Hills at aroun 6:30 P.M from our house. I arranaged a city and state road map so that others can navigate me to easily find our way. But its Bangalore, famous for 1-ways. We got diverted from our decided route and started wandering in our dhanno all around the city looking for a escape point which will lead us on right track. After much of effort and thanks to some of the route guides we managed to catch NH-7 for Nandi Hills and geared up with full throttle. On our way to 1st destination of the trip, we had some snap sessions and finally reached the town at the hill base by 8P.M. There we get to know that no hotel is available in and around 15Kms from Nandi Hills. Not being in a mood to return back we decided to move ahead. While we started climbing hill a lad stop us on the way, representing himself as some police guy. We tried to had a chat with him, but as he was speaking in kannad none of us make out what he was saying. With the contortions he was making we came to know that he is demanding some money from us. We move ahead, still it was 12km to go to reach the acme of the hill and there was darkness dwelling everywhere. Seeing the tranquility, for the time-being we thought of returning back to the town. But no sooner we moved a lil ahead we saw few guys in bivouac on the way. It gave us courage to continue our journey further and finally we reached the top of the hill. There a localite told us that we can go further only after 6:30 A.M. in the morning. With no other option and amenities, we had dinner there, loosened our seat belts and try to be as much comfortable as we can in our dhanno only.

There were 2-3 more groups with us. A group of boys started playing music in full volume and were consuming alcohol. Few minutes later another group joined making a startling entry, accelerating their car and parking as if showing some stunt. We were enjoying the music and the cool breeze. All tired, slowly and steadily we went into the grasp of sleep. Suddenly we were agitated by some noise. Looking out we were appalled, finding a car revolving around ours in concentric circles. After some time they stopped at their original position. Taking this as a challenge the second car which made a heroic entry started moving around both of us in circles and went at a corner, drifiting there. Seeing whole scene we were left agaped. Really the drift was mind-boggling. Both then kept quiet and again went back. With the advent of the dawn, the place become more crowded. People started accumulating to welcome the first day light of the sun.

When the clock hit 6:30 in the morning the door was left open for all to take the view of sunrise from the place where from Tipu Sultan used to throw the betrayals. It was a breath taking view. At an altitude of about 6000ft(appx.) above sea level, welcoming sun to light up the world. It seemed that we were very close to it. The open space at that height complemented with sunrays all over the clouds was making a scenic beauty which was praised by all.

It was worth going there and waiting for sunrise without sleeping whole night. We took snaps to capture the comely view as a memory for future reference. Finally, we decided to leave the place at around 10 A.M. and move for our next destination shravanbelagola which was around 160KM from there.

Day 2:

Not knowing the way where to go we switched on our car and left for shravanabelagola. With the use of GPS system we managed to find a shortest route and started coninuing on that. The temperature started increasing as the day was passing by. We stop at a petrolpump, refuelled our car. There was a CCD nearby, we had some food there, charged our mobile phones and got fresh to continue. Pressing the accelerator and giving full throttle to our car we managed to reach the destination at around 3P.M. in the afternoon. The place was famous for an old temple having a colossus of Bahubali.

It was very hot at that time and we were supposed to climb 650 stairs to reach the temple at the top of the mountain. The earth was so hot that it was impossible to walk without socks. Having no second thought we continued to climb up. After climbing few steps we started dehydrating so we paused on the way to regain our breath. After making some 3-4 stops we finally reached the main temple.

The view of the city from there was mesmerising. Though it was very hot but still we stayed for some time to praise the beauty of nature. The temple was itself an antique one. There were no traces of cement or any other plastering material on the walls. It was build by the slabs of rocks which were inturn supported by few other slabs grooved inside the mountain. The temple was a unique monument in its own. It contains the idols of all the jain tirthankara.

In Kannada language, "Bel" means white while "kola", the pond, is an allusion to the beautiful pond in the middle of the town. We got some drinking water in the temple to quench our thirst. We started to descend down to reach our next spot of the day which is Belur and halebidu, known for the carvings on the walls of the temples. It was around 100Km from shravanabelagola and we were to reach back to bangalore which now was around 240K.M. from Belur. So we started as soon as poosible from here for Belur. We were all tired but the agogness of visiting our next destination kept us agile, thus moving ahead to reach Belur and Halebidu.

Everything was going fine and our car accelerated to top speed, suddenly i felt a jerk and the engine got off. We went from 100Km/Hr to 0 in no time. I tried to bring up the engine again but in vain. This was something we were not planned for and our trip was going to be affected because of this. Moreover our cellphones were discharged except for 1. We called a friend (swarnodeep) who was attending office that day and asked him to send us the number of maruti dealer in the nearby town which was around 18-22Km from the spot where we were stuck. We tried calling the dealers but got no response. Then i went to nearby town in a bus and found a local mechanic out there. I explained him the situation and taking the benefit of the same, he demanded high service charge for looking into the problem. I agreed and took him to the place where our car was standing like a junkyard crap . Inspecting it for some 30 mins he called a person with some parts named Timing Belt which is used to rotate the engine. He replaced the same and took a demo drive to a nearby bus stop. The clock was hitting around 7:30P.M. that time and we had to return to Bangalore, driving around 220 Km from there. We dropped the plan of going to Belur as the temple there get closed by 8:00 P.M. Checking the fuel meter and seeing the need of refilling the tank we stopped in a nearby petrolpump. After getting fueled up, we started back for bangalore. Just after travelling for 500 metres, our car again started choking and became stagnant. We all started cursing the mechanic and time. None of us was having the contact number of the mechanic. All of the sudden Ashwin reminded me that i had given missed calls on my dad cell from mechanic number as only he was the one with signal in his phone that time. So I called back my dad and explained him the situation and asked him to sms me the number of mechanic. Meanwhile i took a passing by Auto and reach the bus-stop at around 1 Km away where we left the mechanic. I searched for the mechanic but couldn't find him anywhere. There was a mobile shop nearby, i requested the shop owner to let me charge my phone and uttered him the situation. He felt pity on me and allowed me to charge the phone. Charging it for some time i called up the mechanic and told him about the car. He asked me to try some stuff but i informed him that i am not near the car then and one who is there doesn't have charge in their cell phone. So he agreed to come back and asked me to go back near car. That shop owner helped me getting lift from a truck driver who dropped me at the place where our car was parked. He offered me a tow service to the nearest town HASSAN around 18km from there, but we opted to wait for the mechanic. After an hour or so the mechanic arrived and looked into the engine again. A wire was unplugged, which he fitted and starts the engine. The engine started and we all thanked him as he was no less than a god at that time for us. We again dropped him to the same bus stop and started back for bangalore. Fearing of getting stuck again at night we planned to stay at Hassan for the night and conitnue for Bangalore in the morning. We went to a hotel and enquired about the rooms. The receptionist there told us aboout the curfew which occured in the town that evening and as a result of which the traffic will not be allowed to roll out that day. We got worried hearing this and looked for some other hotel and enquired about curfew there. Receiving the same information, we thought of leaving the city at night only. We left the town soon and halted in a dhaba, had a dinner there and thought of reaching bangalore somehow on same day. We all were very tired, as we didn't had proper sleep for 2 Days and roaming here and there. As decided we continued our journey. It was all dark on the highway and due to road construction the lane was narrow. We need to cover around 200 Km and it was 11:30 P.M. already. On the way i had tea and wash my face to keep myself awake as i was the only person driving the vehicle. After covering around 100Kms somehow i was also very tired and was having almost no energy to continue further, but we had to reach Bangalore also and we didn't wanted to waste any time or get stuck into some problem. While driving I was talking to ashwin so that we didn't fall asleep. But it went wrong. Suddenly both of us were under the grasp of sleep. I was driving the car and when i fall asleep while driving, i moved the car from 1st lane to the 2nd one. A truck was coming on the same lane from opposite direction and seeing this my brother who was sitting behind sensed something wrong. He shouted my name and asked me what i am doing. I woke up hearing his loud voice and seeing the truck, moved the car back to the right lane. We then stopped for some time and i again washed off my face. Then i decided i have to reach bangalore somehow and tried not to sleep. I pushed the accelerator and started acclerating the car. Driving it as fast as possible at that time, i was trying to cover as much distance possible in less time, blowing horn every now and then, which was keeping me and others awake. After driving continuously for around 3Hrs we managed to reach the outskirts of city and our home was around 10-15 Km from there. We took last stop, had some tea and started moving again. On reaching the city we asked for the route to our locality wth few autorickshaw drivers. It was around 3:45A.M. in the morning. Again getting lost in the city and being tired i dozed off. When i was just about to hit the bus stand, Ashwin woke me up and i managed the car. It was the second time we were about to get hit. Driving few more kilometers and reaching the known roads of bangalore, i quit driving as i was totally screwed up. I handed the steering to ashwin and we reached our home finally by 4:30 A.M in the morning. We three rushed into the home and throw us onto the bed and had a tight sleep.

Day 3:-
After having a nice sleep we all woke up late in the morning. The plan for this day was getting doomed as noone was in a mood to go except me. I managed to manipulate my brother but ashwin denied. We called up swarnodeep and he acceded for the tour. We planned to go for Hogenakkal Falls first (around 160Km.) and if time permits then to Krishnagiri (around 100Km from Hogenakkal falls). We left for Hogenakkal falls late at 2:00 P.M. .Again we switched on our GPS system and started on the route shown by it. We lost for 1-2 times in middle, so we enquired the localite of the village on the way.

We moved ahead as per their direction and after sometime found ourself in the midst of the dense forest. There were not a single person visible for a long time untill we reach the next village. We entered into the long route and the road ahead was also not good. But still we continued our journey and reached the place at 6:00 P.M. in the evening. Without wasting any further time we went to take a bath in the fall. Reaching near the fall we came to know that we need to hire a boat to view all the cascade and cataracts. The fall was situated on the george of river Cauvery. It was famous for the shooting of film Roja.

The place was very beautiful and the view of the boat coming in between the rocks on two sides was a like a picturesque. The boat was round in shape and was an amazing one. Sitting comfortably we were all set to leave. There were mild rapids on the way and the boatman was steering it well. We reached the place of first fall and took snaps there. Then we left to see the others. We were already running behind schedule so it was not possible to waste any further time. Not aware of the fun which we were about to experience, it was a surprise which was awaiting for us. The boatman took us below the waterfall and we all were bedraggled into the water. It was an experience for me to take bath under waterfall sitting on the round boat.

He made the full effort to let us enjoy under the stream of water and steer the boat under the waterfall again and again. There was water logging inside our boat too and we started acting as we are getting drowned by throwing the water out of it and shouting for help. Swarnadeep eventually got mad seeing the ambience all around and stood up on the boat to jump in the river. We all controled his state of extreme joy and blissfulness and made him sit on the boat again. After taking a great bath in one of the fall we moved ahead to row through the silent canal of the river. We all appreciated the panoramic view of the place. On the way to explore canal the person steering the boat stopped at a place and starting whirling the boat round and round. It was like we were riding on a merry-goround in the middle of the water.

After sometime everything seems to be a delusion as our mind was still riding on the merry-go-round. We were so much moved by the place and waterfalls that we decided to stay there for that day. Moreover we were not willing to go back from the same route, as it was not safe during night. So we consulted a person there who guided us through a different route which was lil light up, with good roads and towns in between. Dropping the plan to go to krishnagiri, we drove back to bangalore. As said by him the roads ahead were really good and we moved at rocketting speed for the maximum time. We halted at hosur around 50Km before Banaglore, had dinner there and again continued our journey. Finally, we reached home at around 11P.M., picked rajat who was here for giving his GRE exam and left to have ice-cream. We reached an ice-cream parlour had ice-cream, then drove around the city for some time and returned back to our sweet home. For the next day me and my brother planned to go to Bannerghata National Park to take a safai ride there as others were having their office on that day.

Day 4:-
Again we woke up late at around 10 A.M. and my brother was not feeling well. It was too hot also out here in Bangalore, so we dropped the plan of going anywhere and decided to take rest on that day.
